Ginger Choc Crunch Smoothie & Introducing Froothie!

Ginger Choc Crunch Smoothie

I’m very excited to introduce you to a new company today- Froothie! Froothie is actually an Australian company, which, after its huge success over there, launched in Europe a few months ago with its Optimum range of blenders and juicers.

Froothie

No doubt you will have heard of the Vitamix and Blendtec high-powered blenders, but Froothie’s Optimum 9400 is a new and very serious competitor. It rivals both with greater speed and power (I previously owned a Blendtec so I can say that in full honesty!), and best of all, a much more accessible price.

Check out these specs:Froothie Optimum 9400 compared with Vitamix

Pretty impressive, no?

Other things I like about it are that the jug is BPA-free, it’s easy to clean, comes with a tamper (perfect for blending ultra-thick purées), it even has little cable clips which means it’s neat and tidy on the countertop. Oh, and delivery is crazily quick too- If you’re in the UK, you can expect to receive your blender 24-48 hours after you place your order.

I use my blender every single day! You CAN probably get along just fine with a basic blender for most things but it may not blend vegetables like kale or fruit like dates as smoothly as you’d like.

A high-powered blender also opens up a lot of fun possibilities so you can’t help but eat healthily! These machines can pulverize whole grains into flours, blend up super creamy sauces from nuts and seeds, turn nuts into nut butter in minutes and blend even the hardest vegetables into soup.

(Comes in Black, Silver, White and Red)

Consider a high-powered blender as an investment in your health! And if you’re burning out one cheap blender after another then you’ll probably actually save money by buying one that will last (Note the 10 year warranty on the Optimum 9400).

I also love that Froothie’s no.1 mission is helping people to lead a healthier lifestyle. The Optimum 9400 actually comes with a recipe book of quick and easy raw vegan recipes- Smoothies/shakes, soups, dressings, sauces, savoury dishes and desserts! They’re also one of the Vegan Society’s sponsors- definitely a company I’m happy to support.

Check out this video to see the blender in action!

Ginger Choc Crunch Smoothie

The first Froothie recipe I’m sharing is this delicious Ginger Choc Crunch Smoothie! It’s a real treat but, like most of my smoothie recipes, is definitely healthy enough to start your day with.

If you remember my Double Ginger Dark Choc Chunk Muffins, you’ll know that I love ginger and chocolate together. This smoothie has a sweet and creamy base made from pear, raw cashews, almond milk, gooey caramel-like dates and a good dose of fresh ginger.

The Optimum 9400 pulverizes those dates into oblivion in no time!

I then used the pulse setting to partially grind the bitter cacao nibs  to leave some chocolatey crunch.

Cacao nibs are made from pure cacao beans that come straight out of the tropical cacao fruit. They have an amazing nutritional profile and a strong, dark flavour with just a touch of sweetness. I love them!

Looks like a great product and an even better smoothie :-)! Nice to see a high-powered blender that is more accessible. Thanks for sharing!

I love it so much! The blender that is. But the smoothie rocks too 😉

Wow that’s a great price!!! I love my Vitamix, but it’s nice to see a new competitor at a better price. I looovvveee ginger and chocolate together…in fact I had a chocolate and crystallized ginger bar last month and it was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten! I’ve been meaning to recreate it in a dessert. I’ll check out your muffin recipe!! Yum! Smoothie sounds heavenly too and glad it’s banana-free! Haha!

Chocolate with crystallized ginger is so so good! I love the Green & Black’s kind :)
You must do some kind of dessert. I’ll be looking out for it….
And yep, banana free. I love bananas in smoothie but they kind of take over. Pear is a much more neutral base.

This smoothie looks great - I seriously need to get my hands on some cocao nibs! I love that this blender is so much cheaper than the Vita! Thank you for a great product review 😀

Thanks Ceara! And yes, get yourself some cacao nibs. I love them as part of a trail mix too :)

A great review Emma and I love that smoothie. A great pairing of flavours and adding the cocoa nibs at the end was inspired. This one is going on my to-do list.

Thanks Jac. Hope you do give it a try! Ginger & chocolate are so good together!

That smoothie sounds delicious! I am really impressed by the look of this blender- really good value as well. I love my vita, and use it so much, such a good investment.

      August 7, 2014 at 3:29 pm

A high-powered blender really is a worthwhile investment isn’t it?! I get so much use out of mine too.

Super-gorgeous recipe! And I love your images - my birds’ eye view blender shots are pretty bad! We are fans of dates as sweeteners and when I get hold of some decent pears (current ones in the fruit bowl are rubbish;-/) I will make this up. I have all of the ingredients! Thanks for sharing. Love my Froothie too!

    • Coconut and Berries says

      August 7, 2014 at 3:30 pm

Thanks for stopping by Kellie! Glad you like the look of the recipe. Dates are the best sweetener aren’t they?
      Hurrah for Froothie blenders!

  7. Kate @ Veggie Desserts says

    August 7, 2014 at 12:40 pm

This looks utterly delicious. I have a big bag of cacao nibs that I just snack on or put on porridge, so I’ll have to try them in this smoothie recipe!

    • Coconut and Berries says

      August 7, 2014 at 3:34 pm

Thank you Kate. Cacao nibs are fantastic aren’t they? I love mixing them with dried fruit for trail mix type snack :)

Now that smoothie is well up my street! Will certainly be trying that using my Froothie too!

You’ll love your Froothie Laura! Hope you get to try the smoothie too!

Yum, that smoothie sounds delicious! I have been getting by with a mere $50 food processor for all my blending needs and I keep secretly hoping it will break so that I can upgrade :) Stupid thing seems to be unbeatable though!

    • Coconut and Berries says

      August 7, 2014 at 3:36 pm

Thanks Catherine, and you definitely need to get yourself a blender! I love my food processor too but for different things.

Great review Emma and I would LOVE to have one but sadly it is still too expensive for me! Fabulous recipe though and I adore the addition of cocoa nibs!

    • Coconut and Berries says

      August 8, 2014 at 1:16 pm

Thank you Vicky. If you soaked the dates and cashews you might get away with making this in a regular blender…
You should definitely ask for a high-powered blender for your next birthday/Christmas. I know you’d get a lot of use out of one. And do bear Froothie in mind!

I love how good the Optimum 9400 is at blending ingredients without the need to add extra liquid!

    • Coconut and Berries says

      August 9, 2014 at 10:19 am

It’s pretty much blown me away! Have you tried making banana ice cream with it yet? Just frozen bananas blended up. If you use the tamper you don’t need any extra liquid so the ice cream is super thick and extra delicious!

  13. Gabby @ the veggie nook says

    August 9, 2014 at 2:43 pm

Hmm I had never heard of this blender company before! Thanks for introducing them! One day I will own a high speed blender…

Love ginger and chocolate together- what a great smoothie!

    • Coconut and Berries says

      August 11, 2014 at 10:01 pm

Definitely one for the wish list! Do bear Froothie in mind. They really are just as good as the market leaders so it doesn’t make sense to pay more!

Hi Emma! Thank you for introducing me to this blender, it sounds pretty amazing! I have had my eyes on a magimix for a while now but secretly also want a vitamix! I have been considering purchasing a Froothie blender but one thing I would like to know is can it be used as a processor as well? Can it work as a food processor and a blender so that I only need to buy one piece of equipment? Thank you :)

    • Coconut and Berries says

      November 17, 2014 at 7:33 pm

Hi Nicola, glad to introduce you to Froothie! I’m very happy with my blender. As I mentioned in the post, previously owned a Blendtec and can say with full honesty that it’s just as good, making silky smooth sauces, soups, smoothies and nut butters.
I’m afraid that, just like the other high-powered blenders on the market, it is best suited to blending only and I still use my food processor for things like veggie burgers, raw nut-based snacks and desserts and grating vegetables. I have heard of a couple of 2-in-1 machines but don’t think they compare in quality.
