Do you know Pure Ella? You may just have been introduced recently as Ella’s blog was a finalist in the 2014 Saveur Best Food Blog Awards, in the “Best Family Cooking Blog” category! If however, like me, you’re a long-time reader, you’ll know that Ella is expecting her second little one any day now. With not much time to go (Ella’s already 37 weeks), a group of blogger friends thought it would be fun to host a baby shower. All of you are invited too!
Now, I’ve never been to a baby shower, virtual or otherwise (it’s not really a “thing” in the UK) so I wasn’t too sure what one involves, but a little reading tells me it’s usually a casual gathering with fun and games, chit chat, presents for the new baby and of course food and drink. Sounds like fun to me! Ella’s shower is taking place at brunch time (in the US anyway) so I thought I’d bring along a refreshing fruity smoothie which would go down well with adults and kiddies alike. This Strawberry, Orange & Rosewater Smoothie might be my new favourite- it’s light and sweet (but not overly so) with delicate floral notes.
…Given that we don’t know the sex of Ella’s baby yet, you may think this pretty pink, flowery smoothie is more girly than gender-neutral but my three year-old nephew loves flowers and pink so let’s abandon our stereotypes here. Also, everyone knows babies smell like roses so I think it’s more than appropriate!
Ingredients
- 1 400g/14oz Punnet strawberries, frozen
- 1 Large banana, frozen
- 1 C Fresh orange juice (approx 2 oranges)
- 2 C Coconut water
- 1/4 tsp Rosewater
Instructions
- Blend all ingredients in a high-powered blender until smooth.
- Pour into a large jug and serve.

I brought some spring flowers along too. Tulips say Spring and new life to me!

Thank you so much for this! I hate gender stereotypes.
Glad you agree Meredith! And that you like the look of the smoothie.
This is SO pretty! I love the idea of putting rose water in a smoothie. Brilliant!
Thanks Meg. The rosewater really took this to another level. So fragrant! And you only need a few drops.
Emma, this is SO lovely!
Thank you so much for being a part of this special day…. I can’t believe all this love is for Me and this new baby 😉
I LOVE the smoothie and the tulips!! It’s just perfect and I just wish I could have you all come together in real life 😉
Your photography and recipes are always so stunning! Wow!!
One day, when the time comes, we are so throwing you a Baby Shower - we’ll revolutionize the UK with a sweet new tradition 😉
Thank YOU so much!!

A special lady deserves a special party! I’m so excited to “meet” the newest member of your family. I’m sure you are!
Glad you like the smoothie and tulips
Hehe, I’d love a baby shower…
Hi Emma, so glad to see you @ the virtual shower! Baby showers are a huge event in the U.S. haha, but I’m sure they have a bachelorette thing, right? Rosewater is a lovely ingredient, I remember having these rosewater turkish delights, they were so tasty! Such a refreshing smoothie, may I ask which high-powered blender you use? I’m currently looking for one and have a standard blender (almost a decade old). These tulips look so pretty and vibrant, I want them! Thanks for sharing this wonderful beverage recipe for Ella’s Virtual Baby Shower!
We definitely have the bachelorette thing. They’re called “hen nights” here though! Baby showers sound so much fun to me, it’s sad that they’re not done in the UK
Rosewater Turkish delight is amazing. I had some in Istanbul too.
On the blender front, I use a Blendtec. I can’t imagine being without it now!
That is so interesting that baby showers aren’t a thing in the UK! Well, for someone who has never been to one, you make one amazing baby shower smoothie! I will take 2 cups, thank you. (Just making my rounds to everyone’s awesome food!)
Thanks Cara. I need to encourage some friends to get making babies just so I can host them showers! This was so much fun
So glad to have found your site through this shower throwing collaboration! I love me a smoothie and adding rose water sounds divine!
Happy you found me Gina! Hope all the guests enjoy the smoothie 😉 So fun to be a part of the celebrations.
Hi Emma!! So excited to be introduced to your beautiful website through this fun little virtual party in Ella’s honor!! I love your site and this smoothie looks amazing. Rosewater anything is my favorite. I had no clue that baby showers weren’t a thing in the UK! Interesting. Well, glad we could be a part of your first one 😉
Thanks so much Beth. Happy you found me too!
This was definitely a great first baby shower for me 😀
So gorgeous Emma! I love the thought you put into the flavour- pink and rose
I would gladly help myself to a big glass of this. Hopefully one day we can enjoy some real potluck style eating together! xox
Thanks Gabby. Some day we will definitely meet. My bro’s in a long-term relationship with a Canadian girl so I’m kinda hoping they’ll get engaged soon and have the wedding in Canada!
perfect gorgeous and bright colors to celebrate the baby shower Emma! i love the addition of rosewater in this smoothie
Thank you Richa, glad you think it’s appropriate for the party!
This smoothie sounds amazing, I love the delicate taste of rosewater.
Rosewater tastes like a gift from the gods!
I love that your nephew loves pink and flowers
Stereotypes are just plain stupid.
This looks like fun – can anyone join the virtual baby shower?
Mati is the cutest- he especially loves it when his Mummy wears lipstick and a “pretty dress”
I was invited to join the baby shower. It was fun to celebrate with everyone!
This sounds like a delightful combination! I love coconut water as a base for smoothies, but never thought of using rosewater - I wonder if orange blossom water would work well here too? Lovely photos, I can practically feel the sunny spring breeze on my face
Oooh yes, I’m sure orange blossom water would be lovely tooo. A little flowery hint is just gorgeous in this.
Gorgeous! And congratulations to Ella!
Thanks Annie! 😀
This smoothie looks absolutely wonderful - I love rosewater! So nice meeting you at this party 😉
Thanks Ashley. I’m pretty new to rosewater so if you have any recipe suggestions send them my way!
I adore rosewater and this smoothie looks amazing!
Thank you Winnie. It was perfect for the warm, sunny weather which has now vanished…
What a refreshing smoothie! I’d love to sip one at a shower or any occasion! Delish!
I think this is going to be a great one for the summer- sipping outside in the sunshine! Bliss!
Wow that not only sounds like it would be totally delicious - it also looks really pretty
Thanks Sandy. It was so refreshing! It’s going to be a good one for Summer I think.
This is lovely Emma - what a gorgeous contribution. I like your breaking down of gender stereotypes too
It sounds like your nephew knows his mind, and has good taste!
Thanks Kari. Little Mati is great
Can’t wait to see him and my other nephew and niece soon
