Do you know Pure Ella? You may just have been introduced recently as Ella’s blog was a finalist in the 2014 Saveur Best Food Blog Awards, in the “Best Family Cooking Blog” category! If however, like me, you’re a long-time reader, you’ll know that Ella is expecting her second little one any day now. With not much time to go (Ella’s already 37 weeks), a group of blogger friends thought it would be fun to host a baby shower. All of you are invited too!
Now, I’ve never been to a baby shower, virtual or otherwise (it’s not really a “thing” in the UK) so I wasn’t too sure what one involves, but a little reading tells me it’s usually a casual gathering with fun and games, chit chat, presents for the new baby and of course food and drink. Sounds like fun to me! Ella’s shower is taking place at brunch time (in the US anyway) so I thought I’d bring along a refreshing fruity smoothie which would go down well with adults and kiddies alike. This Strawberry, Orange & Rosewater Smoothie might be my new favourite- it’s light and sweet (but not overly so) with delicate floral notes.
…Given that we don’t know the sex of Ella’s baby yet, you may think this pretty pink, flowery smoothie is more girly than gender-neutral but my three year-old nephew loves flowers and pink so let’s abandon our stereotypes here. Also, everyone knows babies smell like roses so I think it’s more than appropriate!
Ingredients
- 1 400g/14oz Punnet strawberries, frozen
- 1 Large banana, frozen
- 1 C Fresh orange juice (approx 2 oranges)
- 2 C Coconut water
- 1/4 tsp Rosewater
Instructions
- Blend all ingredients in a high-powered blender until smooth.
- Pour into a large jug and serve.
I brought some spring flowers along too. Tulips say Spring and new life to me!

Hi Emma, so glad to see you @ the virtual shower! Baby showers are a huge event in the U.S. haha, but I’m sure they have a bachelorette thing, right? Rosewater is a lovely ingredient, I remember having these rosewater turkish delights, they were so tasty! Such a refreshing smoothie, may I ask which high-powered blender you use? I’m currently looking for one and have a standard blender (almost a decade old). These tulips look so pretty and vibrant, I want them! Thanks for sharing this wonderful beverage recipe for Ella’s Virtual Baby Shower!
Coconut and Berries says
We definitely have the bachelorette thing. They’re called “hen nights” here though! Baby showers sound so much fun to me, it’s sad that they’re not done in the UK
Rosewater Turkish delight is amazing. I had some in Istanbul too.
On the blender front, I use a Blendtec. I can’t imagine being without it now!
Cara says
That is so interesting that baby showers aren’t a thing in the UK! Well, for someone who has never been to one, you make one amazing baby shower smoothie! I will take 2 cups, thank you. (Just making my rounds to everyone’s awesome food!)
Coconut and Berries says
Thanks Cara. I need to encourage some friends to get making babies just so I can host them showers! This was so much fun

This sounds like a delightful combination! I love coconut water as a base for smoothies, but never thought of using rosewater - I wonder if orange blossom water would work well here too? Lovely photos, I can practically feel the sunny spring breeze on my face
