I’m trying not to get too distracted from work right now (still going on the dissertation but I’m definitely on the home stretch!) but I thought I’d stop by and share this recipe as, if you folks are anything like me, you could do with a little mid-week pick me up.
This Goji-Orange-Turmeric Smoothie is exactly that!
I’m usually not one for fresh and fruity smoothies and prefer the creamy, often chocolat-ey kind! But this one here is a little different and contains some seriously powerful ingredients in the nutrition stakes, as well as being exceptionally tasty.
Goji berries: Touted as a “superfood”. Gram for gram, goji berries contain more vitamin C than oranges and more beta-carotene than carrots. Beta-carotene is important for healthy skin and eyes.
Turmeric: High in curcumin, a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Ginger: Boosts immunity, eases digestion, improves circulation and also has anti-inflammatory properties.
Oranges: Very high in vitamin C, vital for a healthy immune system.
I managed to pick up a cold some time last week but am feeling better already. I can’t say it was just this smoothie which did it but I’m sure looking after myself with nourishing food helped!
Ill or not, I’ll be making this smoothie regularly. The flavours are hard to describe…tangy, soothing and sweet…they all sound conflicting but I promise all those elements are there. Give it a go and let me know what you think.
Ingredients
- 2 Medium oranges, peeled and any excess pith removed
- 1/2 C Coconut water OR almond milk OR water
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric
- 3 Tbsp Goji berries
- 1/2 " pc Peeled ginger
- 1 Tbsp Coconut nectar OR Maple syrup
- 3/4 C Ice
Instructions
- Blend everything together in a high-power blender, until completely smooth (My Froothie Optimum 9400 pulverizes the goji berries pretty quickly but it might take a few minutes in a less powerful blender).
- Add the ice and blend again.
- Serve immediately.

Yes! I’ve been putting turmeric in all my smoothies lately, such a little powerhouse! Sometimes I make hot drinks with it in too, along with cinammon, ginger, and other goodies.
Coconut and Berries says
Ooh, I’ve read about making hot drinks with it but haven’t yet tried one. I think Ricki Heller has a turmeric latte which does sound delicious.
Julia says
I’ve added turmeric to banana smoothies before, but orange is something I am eager to try! Looks good!
Coconut and Berries says
Thank you Julia. Glad you’ve tried turmeric in smoothies before and enjoyed it. Definitely give it a go with the orange and gojis. It’a s lovely balance of flavours.
Librarian Lavender says
This looks so delicious, I’m definitely going to try it!
Coconut and Berries says
Thank you Lavender. I hope you enjoy it! It’s different but I really liked it.
Julia says
This sounds amazing! I never thought of putting goji berries in my smoothie. I am so doing this tomorrow! Thanks!
Coconut and Berries says
Hurrah! Hope you enjoy(ed) it! I’d love to hear what you think.
Jane says
I liked this! But I read recently (can’t off-hand think where) that turmeric is one of those things that is far better for you if it is cooked - any thoughts?
Coconut and Berries says
That’s so interesting Jane. I’ve never read that. In fact, it’s usually the reverse that spices/herbs lose nutritional properties in cooking. If you do find an article on it please send it my way as I’d be interested to read it.
Glad you enjoyed the smoothie anyway!
Ceara @ Ceara's Kitchen says
This smoothie is perfect for this time of year! I love the addition of Tumeric!!! Hope you are feeling better!
Coconut and Berries says
I think it was the change of seasons that caught me off guard. A few people seem to be coming down with colds. Happy to be feeling better too!
Kari @ bite-sized thoughts says
Looks lovely Emma! It does sound like just the thing for helping a cold too - I’m glad you’re feeling better.
Coconut and Berries says
Thank you Kari! I’m certainly glad too. It was a nasty shock. I haven’t had a cold in what seems like forever!
Annie says
With a color that bright and beautiful, it just has to be healing!
Coconut and Berries says
Amazing that such vibrant colours exist in nature, isn’t it?! Like beetroot- always marvels me!
Catherine @ Chocolate & Vegetables says
Yum! That smoothie looks so beautiful and vibrant. I’ll have to give it a try the next time I feel a cold coming on.
Coconut and Berries says
It really gave me that glow!

This looks perfect!! I just started back up teaching this week, and I always seem to get sick at the beginning of the year when all the kids come back. Just bookmarked this page!
Teffy Perk says
This looks so incredibly delicious (and full of goodness!)
Love adding goji berries to my smoothies, but I’m yet to add turmeric! I get paranoid it’ll ruin the taste (even though I love turmeric!)
{Teffy’s Perks} X
Coconut and Berries says
It definitely doesn’t ruin the taste at all. It’s unique but really lovely. Gojis are fab in smoothies aren’t they. I find they add some body as well as flavour which I really like.
Jo says
I will be trying this one out! I made turmeric milk recently which was ok, bit I think this might be better!
Coconut and Berries says
I’ve seen turmeric “lates” about and have been intrigued but am not so sure I’m convinved by creamy and turmeric together. That’s why I changed track from my normal creamy smoothies here and went fruity instead!
Elizabeth says
what a lovely recipe! I have to say when I was working on my own dissertation it was mostly unhealthy cakes that I made, not nourishing smoothies!
Coconut and Berries says
Baking is good procrastinaton I suppose! Maybe not such a good idea when you’re sitting around all day at a computer though 😉
Rachel Walker says
I love turmeric for the taste just as much as the flavour - looks like a really interesting recipe.
Certainly on my ‘to try’ list…thanks for sharing!
Coconut and Berries says
I really enjoy the flavour of turmeric too. Nice that it’s got some bonus nutritional properties!
Hope you like the smoothie.
Jacqueline Meldrum says
What a great idea of adding ginger and turmeric. Just look at that colour! Gorgeous and healthy!
Coconut and Berries says
It’s a pretty peachy orange isn’t it? I loved the taste too.
Cloe says
I’ve been adding turmeric on my tea every night. My stress and inflammation usually subside. Turmeric is actually effective even for liver disease and other health conditions. I might as well try this orange turmeric recipe of yours, sounds great and delicious. And maybe It will do best with some avocado and banana. I hope you could post more turmeric related recipes in the near future.
Coconut and Berries says
Turmeric is amazing, isn’t it?! I’ll have a think about other turmeric recipes. I regularly make a kind of tonic with turmeric, ginger, baobab, honey & hot water which is so restorative and tasty too.
